Since his
childhood Alexander Cruz showed a
natural tendency towards the world of
arts. Born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico
in 1975, Alexander studied music with
his father, Professor Eugenio Cruz. He
highly mastered musical skills in
instruments such as the "cuatro", a
native musical string instrument, bass,
piano and recently the guitar.
At the age
of fifteen (15)
he studied
the "Wet
on Wet" technique
in oil
with
the international
artist
Bob
Ross
and became
the first certified
Ross instructor
in
Puerto Rico
on
subjects
such as
Landscapes
(CRI),
Florals
(CRFI) and
Wildlife
(CRWI).
In 1992
he established the
Escuela y Galería de Artes Cruz
which
continues to offer
art classes,
promoting the arts
for children and
adults, and also
exhibited
his works.
He has taught
art
to
over 12,500
students in and out
of
Puerto Rico
and they all
walked
out
of the room with
beautiful artwork.
Since 1995
he studied
traditional
oil
techniques
with
Dana
Jester
and
Daniel
E.
Greene,
NA. He also
kept
studying
his Bachelor's Degree
in Visual Arts
at the
University of the Sacred
Heart in
San
Juan,
Puerto Rico
where he graduated
with honors
for
1998.
Cruz
transmits his inner feelings through the
images of nature. Landscapes, flowers
and wildlife inspire his work. He also
reflects a taste for the finest detail
and realism in his work.
In
1999 his work was published in the
internationally renowned art publication
"Wild Life Art Magazine" becoming
the only Puerto Rican artist included in
this publication. He appeared again in
the
November/December 2003 Issue of
Wildlife Art Magazine. Also his work has
been displayed in different and
important magazines like "Art Business
News", "Arte al Día" and "Arte
Latinoamericano".
With his unique
paintings and leadership, this artist
has become one of the most recognized
artists in his country. Almost all the
main press and television media of
Puerto Rico had interviewed him.
He has been recognized and rewarded by
the
Capitol House of Representatives of

Cruz has recently developed a new
proposal on the pictorial plane: his
first series of works titled
"Colors
that Sing" worked in his new
artistic style
Expressionist Realism. This
collection contains over 55 paintings.
Again the artist continues to surprise
us with his mastery of the medium
presenting our native birds and our
flora with a palpable hyperrealism, but
at the same time we are impressed and in
love with expressive colors in each
piece environment.
The combination of all these elements
becomes a melody of colors to our spirit
that leads us to think about how perfect
Nature is and as we should appreciate,
preserve, study and love her.
This collection of works has been
exhibited in important places in the
country such as:
Galería Cidreña,
Cidra
2015
Museo de Vida Silvestre , San
Juan (2014)
Paseo La Princesa, Tourism Main Office
of PR
, San Juan
(2013)
Centro Ceremonial Indígena de Tibes,
Ponce (2009)
Museo de la Universidad del Turabo,
Gurabo (2009)
Based on
this new collection of
bird
paintings
the artist has
made an impact
with
his work
and achieved
an
opportunity to
have new educational
and cultural
relations.
In 2010 Mr. Cruz recorded six
educational
DVD’s sponsored by the Martin F.
Weber Co. where he teaches with
step-by-step instructions how to paint
different birds and a tropical
landscape. He was also hired by this
company to participate in different
International Art Shows like
Creative World in Frankfurt, Germany
(2012, 2013 and 2014) and
NAMTA Art Show
in Minneapolis, Minnesota US (2013)
where he teaches people with no
experience in painting and promote art
materials with his unique charisma,
devotion and love for what he does.
He has
become the
first and only
Latin artist to
enter this
company.
